Friday Lifestyles: 3 Easy Steps to Winter-Proof Your Skin

It is never too soon to protect your skin. Check out our top 3 tips (and products) to help winter-proof your skin.

3 Easy Steps to Winter-Proof Your Skin

You don’t need to wait until winter is here to start protecting your skin from the harsh, dry air. In fact, you will be much better off if you start now! From key prevention techniques to the best moisturizing products, we have some valuable how-tos and great products for winter-proofing your skin.

TopShelf Clothes | Winter-Proof Your Skin

Step 1: Prevention – The best way to avoid irritation, is to stop it before it starts. Once your skin begins to dry out, or get red or itchy, it makes it much harder to get that smooth and clean look & feel. So, develop a moisturizing routine now and stick to it, and remember to keep the environment in mind, even when inside. Most of us are tempted to crank up the heat as soon as it gets cool out; however, this can dry out your skin almost overnight. Invest in a humidifier , avoid extremely hot showers and protect your skin from harsh winds when you step outdoors.

Step 2: Exfoliate- While you should exfoliate year round, it is especially important to do so in the winter since it is easier for dead skin cells to build up. Try buffing dry skin with a creamy scrub (using a body scrub or body brush) before showering. This will help break up dead skin cells and soften your skin (Fitness Magazine).

Step 3: MaintainThe number one rule (which applies year-round) is to make sure that you drink enough water. Dehydration will only worsen the look and feel of your skin. Additionally, be conscious of what foods you are putting into your body. Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants (i.e. fish oils, flaxseed oil, dark leafy greens, citrus and nuts) will help maintain a healthy glow from the inside, out. (

The Best Products for Winter-proofing Skin:
