Each year the Met Gala proves to be one of the fashion industry’s biggest events, with a crowd that ranges from models, to designers to Hollywood’s biggest stars. Last year attendees paid tribute to Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada in a sea of metallics; this year’s event showed a very different style. The Met Gala’s 2013 theme, Punk: Chaos to Couture, resulted in somewhat of a red carpet transformation as stars gave their usual glamorous styles an edge. Monday night’s event revealed a variety of “best dressed” looks composed of spikes, cutouts and extra bold makeup. Today we’ve selected our picks for best-dressed celebrities at the 2013 Met Gala, proving that with the right styling, punk fashion can be high-fashion.
Met Gala 2013: Two Birds of a Feather
Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere
Anne Hathaway in Valentino
Blake Lively brings contrast to her look with the smooth silk strapless top set against her voluminous feathered skirt. We love her fusion of glam and punk as she tops off her look with shoulder dusting earrings and a sleek updo. Anne Hathaway brings a similar glam to the red carpet with feathered sleeves and a sparkling semi-sheer dress. For added edge, Hathaway completes her look with a platinum blonde pompadour and bold smoky eyes.
Met Gala 2013: Edgy in White
Rooney Mara Givenchy
Olivia Wilde in Calvin Klein Collection
It can be hard to look anything but angelic in entirely white dresses, however these ladies pulled it off. Rooney Mara heightens the edge in her look with a dark lip and plunging neckline. Olivia Wilde keeps her makeup simple, letting the bold cutout and high slit on her Calvin Klein Collection gown do the talking.
Met Gala 2013: Studded in Burberry
Cara Delevingne Burberry
Sienna Miller in Burberry
Cara Delevingne nails the punk theme with her spiked Burberry dress, signature smokey eyes and deep neckline. Sienna Miller goes for a different take on spikes with her studded moto jacket and matching spiked headband. Both ladies finish off their edgy looks with extreme side parts that highlight their blonde hair.
