Designer Spotlight: Nike

Nike is no stranger to the fitness apparel game with its innovative footwear and weather technology. However, now they are taking on high fashion with supermodel Karlie Kloss as the face of their newest collection. Looking cute while sweating it out just got easier.

As a former ballerina, Karlie Kloss is a long-time advocate for staying fit and healthy. So Nike’s decision to use the athletically conscious model is no surprise. What’s different with Nike’s latest endeavor? Nike has teamed up with designer Pedro Lourenco to create a new women’s training collection. The line, which releases November 13th, promises to suffice the growing desire for luxury sportswear as it brings modern styles to fit gear. Typical of Nike’s fashion-meets-function style, the 9-piece capsule collection features chic outerwear with zipped pockets, lightweight materials, and a feminine look. Nike has also revamped older trends such as 60’s era neoprene into modern sportswear through its signature Dri-FIT fabric. Intrigued? While we wait for the launch of Nike’s latest line, we’ve decided to highlight some of our favorite pieces that are available to shop now.

Designer Spotlight: Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca Minkoff is this Monday’s Muse, and it’s not hard to justify why she is inspiring. The designer of her self-titled brand, which she founded with her brother Uri, is a well-known and respected name in the fashion world. Unlike many of her peers, Rebecca Minkoff has always been a social media wizard, with tech savvy and a truly modern approach to fashion. Last season she made the bold decision and partnered with Snapchat, to preview her designs from her spring 2014 collection before they were shown on the runway. Hats off to Rebecca!

TopShelf Clothes | Designer Spotlight

How did her career start? In 2001, Minkoff designed a five-piece capsule collection, which appeared on The Tonight Show and instantly became a sensation. It was in 2005 that Minkoff created her first handbag, the “Morning After Bag” (a.k.a. the M.A.B.) and the rest, as they say, is history. After the introduction of Minkoff’s iconic M.A.B. bag, her career took off with its popular “downtown romantic” themed designs. Since her launch, Rebecca Minkoff has grown to be a global lifestyle brand with everything from accessories to apparel to jewelry.

What style do her designs have? When creating new collections, Rebecca Minkoff designs with the “versatility-driven customer in mind” (Nordstrom)- they are designed to make a statement while still remaining a go-to everyday accessory. Her clothing mimics that young and edgy, yet sophisticated vibe with a range of printed dresses, feminine jackets and modern accents that make an understated statement. Designer Spotlight: Eleanor Kalle

TopShelf stylist Randi Tutelman not only offers consistent (and spectacular) fashion advice to our online shoppers, but she also is an incredible jewelry designer as well. Today we are excited to give an insider’s look at her brand Eleanor Kalle, her inspiration as both a stylist and a designer, and of course, her young and fresh styling advice.

Randi Tutelman on Her Personal Style:

“If I could define my style in five words they would be: effortless, bold, feminine, classic and unique. I consider myself a savvy shopper. I enjoy playing dress-up, but also enjoy a casual comfortable look during the day. I like taking risks with colors, patterns, and textures. When shopping around, I enjoy mixing and matching high and low end designers. Shopping is a process; I like to change things up and not shop based on trends.” – Randi

About Her Brand, Eleanore Kalle:

TopShelf Clothes | Eleanore Kalle

Eleanor Kalle is a lifestyle brand featuring functional fashion jewelry for the adventurous girl inside all of us. The New York-based brand focuses on versatile statement necklaces and handchains, all of which are handmade with love in America. Newly launched by Randi Tutelman and Amy Mazius, the designers use their free spirited method to create bold pieces.

So, where can you buy them? In addition to their official site, Eleanor Kalle is sold at Milly on Madison Avenue and is actually expanding with Milly into the Middle East. Additionally, the talented duo will be showcasing their brand at Henri Bendel’s upcoming Pop-Up Shop this February.

What’s up next? Amy and Randi are thrilled to announce the upcoming debut of their Spring/Summer 2014 collection. “Designing with a “grunge-chic” girl in mind, Eleanor Kalle sees summer as a time to play with dripping jewels and minimalist shapes. Using the hard vs. soft aesthetic, Spring/Summer 2014 is all about fluid geometry. Look out for lilac stones and metallic hardware.” – EK

Now, ready to see some pieces? Today we asked the Eleanore Kalle team to style a few of their favorite pieces:

TopShelf Clothes | Eleanore Kalle

“This look takes a trend we especially love—the boyfriend fit—and adds a sexy feminine twist. We paired Rag & Bone boyfriend jeans in a light wash with a crisp white Theory oxford.  Team them with Ivanka Trump’s spring floral sling backs for just the right softness and top it all off with Eleanor Kalle jewelry!” - EK

Eleanor Kalle Look #2:

TopShelf Clothes | Eleanor Kalle

“Staying on trend with ‘sensory overload’ for spring is cool and effortless with Clover Canyon neoprene pieces. We started this look with a statement-sleeve printed top. Pairing it with a high waist skirt dresses up the trend; we chose this Nameless skirt with an interesting hemline to play off the top’s bold pattern (plus, it’s a steal under $40!).

Our Eleanor Kalle statement necklace will add a polished finishing touch. We chose The Taja necklace, which complements the colors in the Clover Canyon top. Plus, gunmetal one of our favorite colors for spring.” -EK

Within just a few years, Ralph Lauren expanded his brand to womenswear, fragrance, home furnishings, and numerous other departments that contributed to his powerful global empire.

The American Dream: Elie Tahari

This year, Elie Tahari is on the tip of everyone’s tongues. To kick off Mercedes Benz Fashion Week festivities last week, designers, stylists, and editors alike celebrated the his company’s 40th anniversary. In fact, just last Wednesday was proclaimed “Elie Tahari Day” by Mayor Bloomberg. While 40 years is an impressive feat in itself, what’s even more remarkable is how Elie Tahari got there.

TopShelf Clothes | Elie Tahari fall winter 2013

Elie Tahari grew up in an Israeli orphanage before making his way to New York. Coming to the states with less than $100 in his pocket, Tahari actually slept on park benches before entering the fashion world and making a name for himself. Tahari first hit it big in 1974 when he became the first designer to open a boutique on Madison Avenue. And as they say, the rest is history. Since his launch, Tahari has expanded his brand to men and women’s clothing and accessories with a market that reaches worldwide.

Tahari’s designs feature luxurious fabrics and subtle textures which flatter its wearer with an understated elegance. His fall/winter 2013 features a range of structured pieces in deep blues and black. And while each piece is distinct from the next, the range of sophisticated jackets, dresses and pants are totally versatile, making them an excellent investment for the workingwoman on the go.
